It seems like we’re entering a peak Artificial Intelligence (AI) era right now, so much so that, as of writing this (in mid-November 2025), AI stocks seem overvalued.
But is AI overvalued? Overhyped?
I don’t think so. But you need to weed through the clutter to focus on what really matters.
All elective and cash-based practices, including plastic surgeons, medical spas, orthodontists, refractive surgeons, dermatologists, and wellness and longevity clinics, should focus on a few key things to differentiate themselves from their competition.
In this article, we’ll review the most important dos and don’ts for practices that want to make the most of AI in 2026.

Do use AI to manage and ‘warm up’ your leads.
The best-performing practices recognize that AI excels at pre-consultation communication. Instead of relying on front desk staff to chase every inquiry within the minute it arrives – when they’re often overwhelmed with other tasks – they use AI agents that reply instantly, follow up at smart intervals, answer routine questions, and even score leads based on readiness to book.
These assistants never get tired, never forget a message, and never delay follow-up during busy hours.
AI can also segment leads based on interest and behavior. A lead who has viewed pricing pages multiple times, or who has added unique context in their form submission, receives a different follow-up than a lead who submitted their info in a form with no message.
This level of precision is something that even the best human team struggles to match consistently.
Do use AI to book consultations directly.
Savvy practices now allow AI-powered systems to schedule appointments without staff intervention. These systems sync with calendars in real time and can offer prospects alternative times, send confirmations, and even manage rescheduling.
The result is a faster path from curiosity to consultation, which directly increases revenue.
Patients also appreciate the convenience. They can book at night, during lunch breaks, or any time when they have 30-60 seconds. This reduces friction and makes your practice feel modern and responsive.
Do use AI to evaluate your analytics.
Every practice collects data, but very few know how to turn that data into a clear action plan. AI tools in 2026 can read your email performance, website engagement, consultation show rates, patient retention, and even sentiment from reviews.
They can then explain what is working, what is dropping off, and what you should focus on next.
Instead of vague monthly reports, practices can receive simple and actionable guidance, such as which procedure pages convert best, which call to action drives most consults, or which team member has the highest closing rate.
This level of insight helps owners make confident decisions without hiring full-time analysts.
Do feed your sales data back into your advertising.
High-level practices now connect their AI-assisted CRM with their advertising platforms. This allows the ad system to learn which leads turn into paid cases rather than simply which leads fill out a form.
When your actual sales and revenue outcomes train your ads, your campaigns naturally focus on the people most likely to purchase rather than the people most likely to simply become a lead.
You’re retraining Google or Meta’s algorithm (or AI), which should increase the quality of leads, resulting in more consultations.
Do use AI to reduce repetitive staff tasks.
AI can assist with staff training, creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), staff scheduling, patient instructions, chart summaries, consent checks, pre- and post-visit communication, and a wide range of operational tasks.
Every minute your team saves can be redirected toward higher value patient interaction, which improves satisfaction and enhances your reputation.
Do not solely rely on AI for writing content.
AI-generated blog content and social posts are easy to create, but the quality of the content is based on the inputs you give the GPT.
Creating content still matters and will continue to matter in 2026. But simply pumping out content that is AI-written adds little value.
The best – and most engaging – social posts leverage photos and videos that only the practice can generate, not AI. The best – and most engaging – blog content could be created by AI but would need to be heavily edited.
I am not saying avoid AI for creating content, but be strategic in how you do it.
Do not neglect the human component.
AI is not a replacement for authentic human care. Patients make decisions to work with practices based on who they like and trust, and the best way to build likeability and trust is with human connection.
Using AI optimally should create time for your staff to focus on building relationships, not outsourcing relationships.
Using AI behind the scenes and then delivering personal (human) service during consultations and treatments.
The best parts about practice have little to do with AI.
Without excellent patient care and patient happiness with their treatments, your practice cannot thrive or grow.
AI that is used well will help your practice save time, dial in your marketing, and improve communication. But it will not suddenly make your staff more friendly and likable, and it won’t necessarily help your doctors or practitioners produce better results.
Tools are tools
It’s not the tool itself that has value; it’s how you use it. That’s true for any new laser or device your practice uses, for automations you use, and it’s especially true for AI.
AI is no longer a novelty; it’s the future. Just be careful with how you utilize AI. Like many tools, it’s easy to think that just using the tool itself will be a difference-maker.
When used properly and consistently, AI can boost revenue, lower staff load, and improve communication.
When used poorly, AI is just a shiny object; a hip new way to produce dull content. Even when you’re using AI in the right areas, it requires constant refinement – updating of inputs – to work optimally.
